This is how long your skin takes to recover from alcohol
Last weekend you’ve probably said: “I’m never drinking again!”. Maybe that’s actually a good idea after you’ve read how much time your skin needs to recover from drinking alcohol.
Usually, after two days, your skin feels fine but nothing could be further from the truth: “It takes about two to four weeks for your body to regulate after a night of drinking” according to Dr. Harold Lancer, celebrity dermatologist. “A glass of even the finest red wine is full of sugar, and sugar triggers acne by inflaming the lining of the stomach – which in turn triggers a brain signal to produce more testosterone.”
Yikes! That doesn’t sound good and unfortunately, it gets worse. Does your skin looks dull sometimes, and do you get bad under eye circles? Dr. Harold Lancer explains that these are symptoms of dehydration: “Alcohol is a diuretic that dehydrates the entire body – as is evidenced by the intense thirst of a hangover.”
Furthermore, he explains that even the most expensive skin treatments won’t help if you don’t live according to a balanced lifestyle.
There is hope…
Luckily we don’t have to abandon alcohol completely. Just try to consume it with moderation. A glass of wine every now and then is more than ok.
People who suffer from a lot of acne and have a sensitive skin, however, are better off not drinking alcohol at all.
We think that one drink now a then doesn’t hurt, just make sure that you drink enough water: “Staying hydrated is essential for beautiful skin and good health. You need it to digest food, circulate blood and flush out toxins – to name but a few functions. So, it’s a good strategy to drink a glass of water every time you have an alcoholic beverage.”
Besides all this, it is very important to exfoliate your skin regularly. This will improve the blood flow and this will make your skin look instantly better and more awake.
