Drinking plenty of water for a beautiful skin?
How many times have the magazines told you that the secret to beautiful skin is drinking a lot of water? Is this really true? The assumption that drinking lots of water is good for your skin, is probably one of the biggest myths in the field of skincare. According to Jeffrey Dover, professor in dermatology at Yale University, this story is untrue. Water passes through your body way too quickly to make a difference. You can even drink too much water, several people die from this each year.
How much water a person needs to drink on a daily basis, is hard to say. How active you are and the climate you live in are relevant factors. Harvard University announced this year that drinking 4-6 glasses of fluid (900-1500 ml per day), combined with a healthy diet, is sufficient for most people. Harvard University also said that it’s important to spread your water intake over the day. People who don’t drink enough water and get dehydrated will see this from their skin, that becomes dull and loses elasticity.
My advice is: drink a glass with every meal and eat enough vegetables and fruit. And when you get thirsty, drink!
